With the launch of Season 03 Reloaded in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the haunting, fog-covered map of Totenreich has quickly become a fan-favorite battleground. But beyond the eerie Norwegian coastline and relentless undead waves lies one of the most powerful Wonder Weapons ever introduced—the Jotunn Star. If you're aiming to push high rounds or complete the main Easter Egg, mastering this weapon is essential.
I still remember the first time I activated the Jotunn Star—the moment that frozen beam locked an entire wave in place, I knew this weapon was different. When the Solar Collapse pulled everything into a single point, it felt less like survival and more like control.
Weapon Overview: Frost Meets Fire
The Jotunn Star is a hybrid energy weapon built around thermal manipulation, making it uniquely versatile in combat. Its primary fire, Frostbite, unleashes a continuous cryo-beam that instantly freezes standard zombies, locking down entire lanes with ease. This makes it perfect for crowd control and defensive play.
Its secondary ability, Solar Collapse, is where things get devastating. At the cost of 25% of your charge, the weapon fires a condensed solar core that forms a miniature singularity. Zombies are pulled inward before the core detonates, wiping out entire hordes in seconds. Used correctly, this ability can turn overwhelming situations into instant recoveries.
How to Obtain the Jotunn Star
There are three main ways to get your hands on this weapon during a match, each catering to different playstyles.
The most straightforward method is the Mystery Box, which includes the Jotunn Star in its loot pool after Round 10. While simple, it’s entirely luck-based and can drain your points quickly.
A more skill-based route is through Legendary Trials, particularly in the Lighthouse area. Achieving S-Tier rewards gives you a strong chance of earning the weapon, making this a reliable option for experienced players.
However, the only guaranteed method is completing the “Rune of the North” quest—a multi-step challenge that rewards precision and map knowledge.
Guaranteed Unlock: Step-by-Step
First, you’ll need to restore power to the map. Head to the Generator Room and defend the console for 60 seconds against incoming zombies. Once completed, activate the Lighthouse and aim its beam toward the frozen ship in the harbor.
Next comes the Trial of the Three Runes. Each rune is tied to a specific challenge. The Rune of Ice is located in the Fish Market Freezer and requires a Cryo-Freeze kill near a locked door. The Rune of Fire is hidden in the Church Rafters—burn away the vines using fire-based equipment. Finally, the Rune of Void can be found in the underwater caves beneath the docks, where you must remain submerged for at least 10 seconds to trigger its appearance.
After collecting all three, head to the Altar of Jotunn at the mountain peak. Here, you’ll face a two-minute survival challenge in a locked arena against an Elder Abomination. Stay mobile, manage your ammo carefully, and once the boss falls, the Jotunn Star will appear on the altar as your reward.
Upgrading the weapon transforms it into the Supernova Sovereign, significantly enhancing its capabilities. The battery capacity increases by 50%, allowing for longer sustained fire. The secondary ability gains a much larger pull radius, making it even more effective against large groups. Additionally, shattered enemies now have a chance to freeze nearby targets, creating powerful chain reactions.
