The Tamriel Tones system introduced in The Elder Scrolls Online brings a new battle-pass style progression where players can earn cosmetic rewards, currencies, and other bonuses. While the system offers plenty of opportunities, many players have already made mistakes that cost them valuable progress or rewards.

If you want to get the most out of Tamriel Tones, here are several important things you should avoid.

1. Don’t Open All Your Tone Caches at Once

Players with ESO Plus may receive several Tone Caches that grant Tone Points. It might be tempting to open all of them immediately, but doing so can actually waste points.

You only need about 22,000 Tone Points to unlock every page of rewards. If you open too many caches at once, you may end up with extra points that cannot be used. Even worse, only 2,000 points carry over to the next season, meaning most of the extras could disappear. A better strategy is to open only the caches you need and save the rest for the next season.

2. Think Carefully Before Using Premium Tone Tokens

Some players receive Premium Tone Tokens, which can unlock the Premium or Premium Plus reward tracks.

However, the rewards in a season may not always be worth it. If the cosmetics or items in the Premium track don’t interest you, it might be smarter to save those tokens for a future season with better rewards.

3. Remember: The Premium Pass Is Optional

The Tamriel Tones system is mainly focused on cosmetic rewards. Buying the Premium or Premium Plus pass does not unlock new gameplay content.

All major game content in The Elder Scrolls Online remains accessible to players who own the base game. The paid pass simply offers additional cosmetics and currencies. Because of that, players should only purchase the Premium track if they genuinely like the rewards.

4. Weekly Challenges Aren’t Always Group-Friendly

Weekly challenges in Tamriel Tones are randomized for each player. That means your friends or guild members may not receive the same tasks.

For example, you might get a challenge to complete a dungeon, while someone else gets a crafting objective. This makes it harder for groups to progress together. If you want to complete challenges with friends, you may need to reroll tasks or simply help each other complete different objectives.

5. Some Challenges Can Be Completed Multiple Times

At first glance, some weekly challenges appear to give very small rewards. But many of them can actually be completed multiple times. For example, a challenge that gives 60 Tone Points might allow three or more completions, meaning the total reward becomes much higher than it first appears.

Always check the challenge description to see how many times it can be repeated.

6. Use Your Weekly Challenge Rerolls

If you receive challenges you don’t want to complete, you are not stuck with them.

The system allows five rerolls each week, letting you replace tasks with new ones that better match your playstyle. You can even reroll the same challenge multiple times until you get something more manageable. Using these rerolls wisely can make progression much easier.
