A New Era for The Elder Scrolls Online in 2026
Big changes are arriving in The Elder Scrolls Online, making 2026 one of the best times to jump back into Tamriel — or experience it for the very first time. With the introduction of a seasonal content model, major quality-of-life improvements, new events, and a revamped rewards system, the game is evolving into a more accessible and rewarding MMO than ever before.
Free Access to Future Content
One of the most exciting updates is that players who already own the base game will now receive all future content updates for free. This includes new zones, dungeons, storylines, systems, and even gameplay features — released simultaneously for all players across PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation.
In addition, four classic DLC adventures have now been permanently added to the base experience:
Imperial City
Orsinium
Thieves Guild
Dark Brotherhood
These expansions are now fully integrated and accessible through the in-game menu, alongside the Morrowind chapter and the Warden class — offering dozens of zones and hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Seasons Replace Annual Expansions
ESO is moving away from large yearly updates and instead adopting a seasonal model, delivering fresh content every three months. Each season introduces:
New gameplay features or activities
Story-driven content and exploration zones
Balance updates and community-driven improvements
Regular quality-of-life enhancements
This new structure ensures a steady flow of content and keeps the experience dynamic for both new and veteran players.
Tamriel Tones & New Rewards System
A brand-new feature called Tamriel Tones introduces a seasonal rewards track. Players can earn:

Optional premium rewards for additional collectibles and currencies
Even after a season ends, some rewards remain accessible, reducing the pressure to grind within a limited timeframe.
Gold Coast Bazaar & Trade Bars
Another major addition is the Gold Coast Bazaar, an in-game marketplace where players can spend a new currency called trade bars. Unlike traditional premium currencies, trade bars:
Are earned through gameplay and seasonal progression
Cannot be purchased with real money
Have no earning cap
The Bazaar rotates limited-time collectibles, including previously rare rewards from events, Twitch drops, and login bonuses—making them more accessible than ever.
Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk
The new seasonal system begins with Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk, running from April 2 to July 8. This launch season introduces:
Around 100 collectible items in the Bazaar
A new event zone called the Night Market, launching April 29
A faction-based PvE experience with exclusive rewards, including a unique player home
The Night Market will be available for a limited time but is expected to return in future seasons, reducing long-term FOMO concerns.
Gameplay Improvements & Class Updates
Season Zero also delivers significant gameplay upgrades, including:
Streamlined UI and easier skill respec (now free and accessible anytime)
Balanced XP progression across weapon bars
Combat visual and animation upgrades
The Dragonknight class is the first to receive a full rework, with improved abilities and visuals. Future updates will focus on Wardens and Sorcerers, alongside improvements to weapon skill lines and werewolf transformations — including the long-awaited female werewolf model.
New Systems for PvE and PvP
ESO is also introducing new systems to deepen gameplay:
Challenge Difficulty: Optional harder PvE content with better rewards
Unified PvP Progression: Rank up across Battlegrounds, Imperial City, and Cyrodiil
Veteran PvP Rewards: New titles, perks, and cosmetic upgrades
