How to Make Money in GTA 5 Story Mode
Making money in GTA 5 Story Mode isn’t just about robbing a few stores or completing random side activities. If you want to truly dominate Los Santos — buying luxury properties, high-end vehicles, and powerful weapons — you’ll need a smarter financial strategy. Small cash rewards from convenience stores or minor missions simply won’t cut it.
One of the most powerful ways to earn money in GTA 5 Story Mode involves Lester’s assassination missions. These missions directly influence the in-game stock market, allowing players to make massive profits with the right timing.
Below are the most effective investment strategies for each assassination mission.
1. Hotel Assassination Strategy
This mission is required to continue the story.
Before starting the mission, invest all of Franklin’s available money in Betta Pharmaceuticals (BET) on the BAWSAQ exchange. After completing the mission, wait about 2–3 in-game days for the stock to rise. Once profits reach around 50%, sell your shares.
Next, immediately invest in Bilkington Research (BIL) on the LCN Exchange. After roughly four in-game days, the stock will hit its lowest point and begin to recover. Hold the investment for about 48 hours and sell when profits climb to around 80% or more.
2. Multi-Target Assassination
This mission impacts the tobacco market.
Before starting, invest money from all three characters in Debonaire (DEB) stock on the LCN Exchange. After completing the mission, the stock price will rise quickly. Sell once profits reach about 80%, usually within two in-game days.
Then switch your investment to Redwood Cigarettes (RED). Over the next five to seven in-game days, the stock typically rebounds dramatically — often producing 300% or greater returns.
3. Vice Assassination
For this mission, invest in Fruit Computers (FRT) before beginning. Once the mission is complete, the stock generally climbs by around 50% within two in-game days.
The profit window here is shorter than other missions, so keep a close eye on your stock portfolio and sell as soon as the price peaks.
4. Bus Assassination
This mission works a little differently from the others.
Do not invest in anything before starting the mission. Instead, complete the assassination first. Immediately afterward, invest heavily in Vapid (VAP) stock. Over the next several in-game days, the company’s value will rebound and can often generate around 100% profit.
5. Construction Assassination
Before starting this final assassination mission, invest all available funds into GoldCoast Development (GCD).
After the mission concludes, the stock price will steadily increase over the next three to four in-game days, typically delivering about 80% profit before reaching its peak.
A key tip: only complete the first assassination mission (Hotel Assassination) when required by the story. Save the remaining assassination missions until after finishing the final heist, The Big Score. At that point, each character can earn roughly $35–40 million, giving you much more capital to invest and greatly increasing your returns.
While smaller activities like robberies, races, or side missions can provide extra cash, the stock market manipulation tied to Lester’s missions remains the most effective way to become incredibly wealthy in GTA 5 Story Mode.
By waiting until the end of the story and investing wisely, you can build an empire in Los Santos — unlocking the freedom to buy everything the game has to offer, from luxury homes to elite supercars.
