The 3.28 Mirage update for Path of Exile completely changed how I approach the Atlas of Worlds. As someone who has spent countless hours mapping, I can honestly say these changes make progression more strategic and rewarding.
Maps are no longer tied to specific layouts. Each map now drops by tier, giving me the freedom to choose the layout I want. I’ve personally found that this saves so much time and frustration, especially when I just want to focus on farming efficiently. The Atlas now also includes a massive passive skill tree. I can earn points from completing maps and use them to boost monster density, map rewards, and other key mechanics. Astrolabes provide region-specific upgrades, while Voidstones globally increase map tier, giving me extra power and flexibility. Memory Vaults add optional challenges with unique rewards, keeping the endgame fresh and exciting.
My first step in any new league is always to secure passive points. I focus on nodes that increase point gain, monster density, and loot quality. Getting 20–30 points early gives me the freedom to plan my path for the midgame.
Maintaining map sustain is crucial. I build a map pool that ensures constant access to mid-tier maps and invest in nodes that improve mechanic spawn rates, monster scaling, and drop rewards. This keeps my farming smooth and efficient.
Voidstones are my key to unlocking high-tier maps. Each one increases the tier of all maps on my Atlas, which is a game-changer for my progression. Collecting the four required Voidstones involves defeating specific bosses, and I always make sure to tackle these strategically.
Run Tier 12–14 maps to stabilize my pool.
Unlock the first Voidstone through boss fights.
Progress to the remaining Voidstones to access Tier 15+ maps and fully enhance my Atlas.
Mapping Strategies
Depending on my goals, I switch between mapping strategies. For fast “Alch & Go” runs, I use Alchemy Orbs to increase monster packs and rarity, favoring layouts that complement my build. When I want high rewards, I focus on Breach, Ultimatum, and Expedition events, amplifying them with Astrolabes.
Late-game runs are the most satisfying. With all Voidstones placed and a fully upgraded Atlas, I challenge myself with high-tier maps and modifiers. Every Scarab and temporary boost is used strategically to maximize rewards.
Playing SSF has taught me to balance maps, gear, and resources carefully. Early on, I focus on sustaining maps and gaining passive points, tailoring Astrolabes to fit my build while ensuring survivability.
Balanced map progression is essential, and planning Astrolabes carefully can make or break efficiency.
Optimal Atlas Plan
Early (Tier 1–12): Gather passive points, build map sustain, unlock basic mechanics.
Mid (Tier 12–14): Acquire Voidstones, expand map pool, strengthen the passive tree.
Late (Tier 14–16+): Place all Voidstones, optimize Astrolabes, farm high-value mechanics like Breach, Ultimatum, and Expedition.
Every map run feels purposeful, and I can finally enjoy the strategy behind my progress as much as the loot itself.
