In this article, we are going to show you the best way to level up your Merchant Alliance reputation in Sea of Thieves, a method that quickly earns both gold and reputation while staying efficient and fun. Before we begin, make sure you are at Merchant Alliance Level 20 — this unlocks the key voyage we’ll be using.
After spawning, head out of the tavern and go to the Merchant Alliance post at the nearby outpost. Once there, vote to raise your Merchant Alliance Emissary Flag at the Emissary Table — this increases both the gold and reputation you’ll earn for completing voyages.
Next, board your ship and go below deck to your Quest Table. We’re going to select a special voyage that helps you level up fast.
At the Quest Table, scroll through the available merchants’ voyages and select “Lost Shipment” — specifically an Ashen Executive Lost Shipment if available. This voyage is part of the Lost Shipments category, where you track down and recover a sunken Merchant ship’s cargo and manifest.
Once selected, mark Gallion’s Grave Outpost as your destination and vote to start the voyage.
Tip: If Gallion’s Grave isn’t the final destination on your first try, cancel and reset the voyage. Moving your ship slightly farther from the outpost before retrying can help randomize the destination until you get Gallion’s Grave — this is important for consistency and speed.
Now comes the fun part:
Look for a small cluster of about six circling birds with your Spyglass — this usually indicates the location of the shipwreck that holds your Merchant Manifest.
Swim down and locate the shipwreck underneath the birds.
Unlike some other voyages, the Captain’s Manifest often doesn’t appear with all the clues — instead, it spawns below deck with the skeleton itself.
Once you find and grab the Manifest, your voyage will automatically complete.
You don’t need to bring up all the other crates to cash in your voyage, but if you see supply crates or other loot, picking them up before looting the Manifest will increase your Emissary value and help you level faster overall.
After returning to your Quest Table, vote for the same Lost Shipment voyage again and repeat the steps above. Find Gallion’s Grave as the end destination, locate the wreck highlighted by the birds, grab the Manifest, and complete the voyage!
With practice, you can complete each run in about 4–5 minutes, making this one of the fastest Merchant rep and gold farming methods in Sea of Thieves.
Each Manifest is worth around 4,000–10,000 gold depending on bonuses and Emissary Grade.
With Emissary Grade 5 bonuses, most runs earn around 10,000 gold each.
By doing one run every 4–5 minutes, you can reliably make roughly 150,000 gold per hour while leveling up.
Reputation gains are strong enough that you should be able to jump multiple Merchant Alliance levels per hour, particularly if you’re starting at a lower rank.
Use the Emissary Flag: Raising your Merchant Emissary to Grade 5 boosts both gold and reputation significantly.
Optimize Routes: If Gallion’s Grave isn’t appearing as the route destination, move your ship slightly and retry the voyage selection to increase consistency.
Don’t Forget Extra Loot: While your main goal is the Manifest, picking up trade crates and loot along the way increases your total payout and rep each run.
This method is not just great for leveling Merchant Alliance quickly — it’s also one of the most efficient ways to stack up gold and reputation while exploring and enjoying Sea of Thieves’ ocean adventures. Happy sailing, pirates!
